Ex-Roca Workers’ Strike Called Off After Agreement Reached

Displaced workers from the ex-Roca railway line have called off today’s planned strike after reaching a last-minute agreement with the ministry of labour to gradually re-incorporate personnel into the company.

The agreement was signed by representatives from the ex-Roca trade union, the minister of labour, Carlos Tomada, and the chief of staff at the labour ministry, Norberto Ciaravino in Constitución in the early hours of the morning.

Labour sources say that displaced workers that will be re-incorporated into the company after Monday have continued to work for railway security since they were “displaced”.

Ciaravino had already held meetings with workers from the San Martín and Belgrano Sur lines, who had lost their jobs and promised to continue talks next week to find a solution for the hundreds of displaced railway workers.

The strike had been organised by an assembly in the State Workers’ Association (ATE) that met in Lomas de Zamora on Wednesday.

Workers planned to close lines between 10am and 4pm would have marked three months since the death of Mariano Ferreyra in clashes between the ex-workers and railway unions.

The strike would have caused chaos on services operating between Plaza Constitución and the southern part of the city, where over one million passengers travel daily.
