The president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, has asked for “commitment, sacrifice and effort” from the members of his new cabinet to comply with the mandate given by the people.
The president appointed the new staff members after the resignation of all the ministers in order to give Morales the freedom to form his government.
During the inauguration the president said is not an easy task given that Bolivia is at this stage of the process. He said it will take the force of all Bolivians to improve their quality of life and that as such they can meet the goal of “living well.”
Morales said that “living well” means overcoming the imbalances between the rich and the poor and addressing levels of poverty that affects certain sectors of the Bolivian people.
Another issue highlighted by the Head of State was the need to govern with transparency, recognising the strengths and weaknesses of the government in order to overcome previous errors.
He said the government is “constantly evaluating their actions and does not need international organisations to do so, or demonstrate how previously a nation was managed.”
The new officers include the ministers of Hydrocarbons and Energy, José Luis Gutiérrez Pérez; Production Development and Plural Economy, Ana Teresa Morales; and the Environment and Water Minister, Julie Monje Villa.
With this change, the president maintained gender equality in the government team that will continue with the social changes the country has been experiencing in recent years.
