The president of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías, said that the elections in his country are transparent. This was before the allegations of the opposition about a possible fraud in parliamentary elections next 26 September.
Chávez said the opposition seeks to delegitimise the National Electoral Council (CNE).
Therefore, he called the Venezuelan people to “remain vigilant”.
He noted that “unity, awareness, organisation and logistics are key elements for victory in the elections”.
The president said the opposition “is crazy” and trying to sabotage the elections with accusations of fraud.
He also argued that the opposition intended to come to Parliament to try to stop the Bolivarian Revolution.
He called on Venezuelans to vote for the ruling party to retain more than two thirds of Parliament and thus “preserve peace” in the country.
On the other hand, the president of the National Electoral Council, Tibisay Lucena, said the opposition parties have the largest number of breaches of the rules governing the election campaign.
In addition, he said the CNE “fully complies” with its role to generate the necessary guarantees in order for the Venezuelans to participate accordingly in the upcoming elections.
